8
easy ways to cut the cost of your bills Here are 8 top
tips to help you cut the cost of
your fuel bills.
Switch to energy efficient light bulbs. The bulbs last
12 times longer(1) and for each bulb you fit, you could
save up to £7 on your annual electricity bill.
Take a shower instead of a bath - you'll use a staggering
40% less water.(2)
Make the most of the warm weather at this time of year
by drying your clothes outside instead of using tumble
driers and radiators - what's more it's absolutely free.
Did you know that turning your thermostat down by just
1 degree centigrade could cut your annual bills by up to
10%, it could save around £49 a year.(3)
Did you know that TVs, videos, and stereos left on stand-by
use around 70% of the power they use when on? Switch them
off when not in use and you could save around £17
a year.(5)
Spend just £10 on a British standard jacket to lag
your hot water tank with and lag the pipe leading from
the boiler to the hot water tank at £3 per metre.
You could make an annual saving of £15 to £20.(4)
After 15 years, a boiler's effectiveness and reliability
is greatly reduced and it may be using up more gas than
you need. Replace an ageing boiler with an energy efficient
'A' rated gas condensing boiler.
Most appliances, such as boilers, washing machines, dishwashers,
fridges and freezers have an energy rating, ranging
from the energy efficient 'A++' to the expensive to
run 'G'. An 'A' rated appliance may be more expensive
than an equivalent 'E' rated machine but will use up
to 30% less energy.
